What's your trailer's tongue weight?

618 lb11.0–12.7% of a 5,250 lb trailer · band 578–667 lbIn range

Your iPhone lies still in the truck and reads how it tips back as the trailer goes on the hitch. You sit on the tailgate to calibrate it, once empty and once loaded. No scale to buy, no dongle to plug in, no trip to a truck stop.

Result: 618 lb, In range, 11.0 to 12.7 percent of trailer weight Guided measurement with spoken steps Rigs: three trucks and trailers with their last tongue weight

📱 No scale, no dongle

The phone's own motion sensor does the measuring. Nothing to buy, nothing to plug into the truck.

🪑 You are the calibration

Sit on the open tailgate twice: once with the truck empty, once with the trailer coupled. Your weight teaches the app how this truck's springs respond.

📏 An honest range

Springs stiffen as they're loaded, so the app reports the range your true tongue weight must lie in. When a 10% or 15% limit falls inside it, it tells you to confirm at a scale.

🚚 Every rig, every trip

Save trucks and trailers and re-check whenever the load changes: full water tanks, bikes, a generator on the tongue.

📦 Payload check

Tongue weight, people and cargo against the payload on your door sticker, so you know what's left before you load the bed.

🔒 Private

Everything is measured on your iPhone. No account, no ads, no tracking, and it works with no signal at the campground.

How it works

  1. Get set. Level, firm pavement, engine off, parking brake on. Disconnect any weight-distribution bars. The trailer rests on its jack beside the ball.
  2. Phone in the cab. Lay it flat on the floor or console, top toward the windshield, and close the doors.
  3. Follow the spoken steps. Baseline → sit on the tailgate → step off → lower the coupler onto the ball → sit on the tailgate again. The phone closes each step itself once the truck has moved and settled, so you stay outside.
  4. Read the result. Tongue weight with its range, its share of your trailer's weight on a 10–15% gauge, a verdict, and a check against your hitch's rating. About three minutes in all.
What it measures, and where it can't. Tongue Weight reads the tow vehicle's pitch, so the vehicle must sit on its springs. It works with pickups, SUVs and vans on leaf or coil springs, towing a ball-hitch trailer: travel trailers, campers, boat and utility trailers. Air-ride and self-levelling suspensions lift the truck back up, which hides the load; the app detects them and tells you to use a scale. Results are estimates with an error band, not a certified scale weight.
